 Riding the Breeze
« Thread Started on Jun 21, 2007, 10:51pm »

Draksk the trandoshan and Isshurra the wookiee, a strange pair of friends considering their species' natural hatred of each other, were relaxing today. Not quite relaxing in the normal sense, they were still hunting, but they weren't hunting their usual prey. They were looking to capture two Guarlaras in Lake Country to ride and hunt Wooly Veermoks. Normally they wouldn't choose such docile creatures as mounts, but Zalaacas-which were much more fierce-needed to be tamed from a young age in order to ensure continued loyalty to their riders. It was no matter, Guarlaras were excellent climbers, and they were quite loyal.

The two tall aliens stood out, standing next to one of the large lakes, the sun weakly reflecting off it's gently rippling surface. They weren't very armed, only a single vibrosword for Draksk and a Ryyk blade and Bowcaster for Isshurra. Not far away, a herd of Shaak were grazing peacefully. Across the lake their goals stood, grazing and trotting proudly, tossing their large black heads and flicking their thick tails. The horse-like creatures were not entirely off guard, however, they would look up and stare at the two offworlders across the lake with curiosity and apprehension.

Draksk nodded to Isshurra, and they split up, Draksk going along the eastern shore, and Isshurra along the west. Isshurra was going to approach them in the open, making his presence obvious, and scare them away. This wouldn't be very hard, the seven and a half-foot wookiee was an intimidating sight. Draksk was to wait on their eastern side, hidden in one of the sturdy trees, and leap onto one of the Guarlara as it passed. From the back of the first Guarlara, he was to use the rope he had coiled on his back to lasso another one for Isshurra.

As Isshurra neared the noble creatures, partially concealed from the Guarlaras by the undergrowth, he saw that his friend was in one of the trees near the herd. He tensed the thick muscles in his legs and prepared himself to run out into the open. A snapping twig behind him made him nearly jump out of his fur and whip around quickly, his Ryyk blade at the ready.

Vivian crept softly along the edge of the woods, slightly surprised by the unannounced presence of two strangers. Her weapons were not drawn, but she was always ready. To her it made much more sence to create as little disturbance as possible, and a lightsaber always complicated matters.

As she approched the break between meadow and woods, she noticed one of the strangers. she quickly came to the conclusion that it was a Wookie.
Knowing that it would be better to approach this Wookie from the front instead of the back, as a show of respect, she turned to find a new route. One that would lead her in a circle, thus letting her approch from the front.

Unfortunatley, as Vivian turned away, she stepped on a twig that snapped very loudly. Fearing the reaction of the Wookie, she drew her lightsaber, but did not extend the blade, and turned to face him.

Isshurra raised his furry eyebrows in surprise, it was a female human. A female human jedi at that. He let out a startled grunt and growled in his language, "What are you doing here, huu-man Jeedai?"

The nearly black wookiee lowered his Ryyk blade slightly to show he didn't intend to harm her, and stood up straight. Her light-blade was not extended, so he could not tell the color, and therefore her alignment. Blood means evil, and likely to attack him. Any other color means good or neutral, not likely to attack him. But he and Draksk were doing an illegal act, capturing the noble Guarlaras-which were only for Royal House members-and not only that, but going to hunt an illegal creature, the Wooly Veermok.

Isshurra attempted to cover his surprise and visibly relaxed, though he still remained tense, and commented matter-of-factly "Wild not safe for huu-man."

Vivian put her lightsaber away and bowed her head, indicating that she meant no harm. "I am Vivian, native to Tatooine. I am a Jedi, though I do not come here on council buisiness."

She stepped into the full light, so he could see thee extent of her weapons, and also that she was hiding nothing.

After a moment of silence she turned to notice the Guarlaras. They were for royals only, this she knew, but what two outsiders could possibly want with or from them she knew not. Stealing was always the most likley option, but it was not in her nature to accuse. she much prefered to hint, and let the potentially guilty party try and explain themselves. It was easy enough to tell the truth from the lies then.

"If it's not too bold, might I ask what you plan to do durring your stay here on Naboo?" That would be enough to determine thier motive.

Isshurra calmed and slung his blade across his back, ready for easy access, should a predator attack, but out of the way to show no threat. He examined her, noting the only weapon she carried was her light-blade; also reminding himself how strangely humans were built. So frail and thin and furless. Furless... His attention snapped back to his also furless friend, who was still waiting in the tree for him to flush out the Guarlaras.

Pulling a large, bronze-covered horn, he put the clarion to his lips and blew three short blasts in rapid succession. It was a signal he and Draksk and come up with, it meant a change in plans. The large wookiee turned back to Vivian, "We are hunting." he said bluntly, "We were searching for Narglatch." he lied smoothly. You learned to lie in this sort of trade. "We thought the Guarlaras would attract the beasts, so we wait."

After a pause, Isshurra growled, "Huu-man might not understand. We hunt. We hunt strong prey." Substituting the Narglatch for their real prey was quite smart, Narglatch were very fiercesome, and they were stealth creatures, the perfect prey for experienced hunters.

Across the glade, Draksk hunkered down in the tree. Something was holding up his friend. Nothing dangerous, but it was still holding him up, and Draksk wasn't too patient. Still, they needed these mounts, so he waiting in the cover of the tree.

Vivian saw a shadow in the trees. She was instantly torn between the urge to further interrogate this Wookie and go find out if this shadow was the other stranger.

She had not been on this planet long, but she felt the odd need to protect the Gungans. She figured it was Jedi thing, you get a lightsaber and an unatural urge to protect things and keep the peace.

After thinking another moment she decided it would be better to continue her interrogation, here, whener se could still view this shadow. After all it would do no good to go chasing after nothing. But if her mind was not playing tricks on her, there was something odd about this Wookie. It wasn't odd to find hunters, but why here. Most of the time there were far more important things giong on in the galaxy.

Vivian slowly began to think she was quite mad. This was ridiculous. "No, I understand. You quite obviously know what you're doing." Intending to turn away she found her self growing more interested in the truth. If this Wookie was lying, he would not wait long to make a move, she could already tell his slight impatieence. And if he was telling the truth she wouldn't be so uneasy.

Isshurra nodded abruptly, "We know what we do." he grunted. "It would be best if you went somewhere safe, Jeedai, Narglatch are not nice beasts." he grunted, not only to get rid of her, but because he knew that there were plenty of predators on Naboo that would love to devour a furless Jedi.

Draksk narrowed his near-golden eyes to spot his friend across the large field. His eyes weren't the best, but luckily Isshurra was large and stood out against the green background. The wookiee was talking to himself again. No, not to himself, to a... human? A female human at that. Draksk let out an annoyed hiss, they were supposed to be hunting and Isshurra was making friends. -_-

Vivian was getting annoyed. Didn't the fact that she was a Jedi show that she wasn't as weak as she looked. They didn't just give the title away. She glared up at the Wookie. "I'm not very nice either." she said, a hint of defiance in her voice.

As she was talking, Vivian also kept a close eye on the shadow. Still unsure wheather it was her mind or real, she decided that she should bring it to the attention of the Wookie. After all, not everyone was tolerant of visitors. Especially those who would linger too long near that which belonged to nobles. Vivian also knew that there were those who would like to take her life as a token. Forgetting that drawing wapons often caused problems among strangers, she drew a gun and aimed for the shadow. "Any idea what that might be?" she asked, jerking her head to point out this shadow.

((Uhh, *cough* Guns are called blasters in Star Wars language))

Isshurra would have smiled at the human's defiance if he had mobile lips. Instead he just growled a small chuckle, then turned to where the female was pointing her gun. He shrugged, all calmness, "May be another hunter." he grunted. "It is too far away to have to care." he added, turning away and watched the Guarlaras again, "Jeedai might want to leave, or she scare away the beasts." he growled slowly.

Draksk made sure to keep perfectly still. Moving might trigger the foolish Jedi into shooting. Since when do Jedi use blasters? he grumbled in his head, rolling his eyes in annoyance that Isshurra was still talking to the human. If he were better with words, she'd be gone by now. -_-

Vivan was still unsure of this shadow, and thought seriously abount shooting it. Her aim was good, but without knowing the species, she couldn't be sure she wouldn't actually kill it. She also figured that it would be better not to provoke the Wookie too much. But he did show signs of aquaintence with the figure.
Vivian now safley assumed that this was not her mind and an actual figure.

"Leaving is something I'm not willing to do." She stated, slightly annoyed. "You've put me in the mood to kill things." She paused and stared him in the eye, showing this was not a subject she was willing to leave be. But after a moment she realized that perhaps the best way to read the Wookie would be to watch it from a distance. "But if you wish to be alone, I can move elsewhere." She offered, yet Vivian did not leave. She liked to think of it as her parting act of defiance and waited for him to bid her to leave.

Isshurra was about to let out a bark-like laugh at her comment about killing, but she spoke again. The large wookiee shrugged his bulky shoulders, "Jeedai is wise, then." he commented, referring to her acquiescence to leave. He turned away as dismissal and stood, watching the Guarlaras intently.

Vivian hated to be laughed at. True, she was one of those girls who looked as if she may faint at any given moment, but she was stronger than she looked. With one last scowel she turned and darted back into the woods.

Several meters along she stepped forward, to the boarder of the woods, to watch the Wookiee. Something told her that it would be better if he didn't see her anymore, though she was beginning to think he wouldn't stop his actions on her account.
((yes! finally spelled it right!!)).

Isshurra paused, making sure the Jedi had left, and pulled out his clarion again, blowing one long, low note into it. Plans were reverting back to normal. The Guarlaras shifted nervously, casting their large-eyed gazes in the wookiee's direction as the horn sounded. They were getting antsy, Isshurra could feel it in his warrior blood. The time was soon.

The large wookiee stood in wait for nearly half an hour longer, to be sure they didn't have any more unexpected visitors, then he moved, dashing out into the clearing, waving his furry arms and snarling fiercely. (Teehee, the image that put in my head was funny ^-^) The large black beasts snorted, startled, and took off, their large, hoof-like feet pounding the earth as they ran.

Draksk looked up at the clarion's call, and while Isshurra waited for the opportune time, his Trandoshan companion shifted impatiently. He was sick of waiting. And so, when his friend leapt from the cover of the trees and scared the horse-like creatures towards him, he nearly shouted in exultations (sp?). The plan was going perfectly, the creatures were getting nearer and nearer by the second....

And finally, Draksk took a bounding leap from the branch of his tree and landed almost perfectly on the back of the largest Guarlara. The creature let out a roar of fear and reared up, but Draksk already had a rope around it's neck and tied to his belt, and he clung on like a flea to a Shaak. As the others of it's kind pounded by, ignoring his snorting, grunting pleas for help, the Guarlara finally gave up and calmed slightly.

The Trandoshan hunter whirled another rope in his hand and threw it as hard as he could, hissing in triumph as it snagged around another Guarlara's neck. The creature fought back a bit before stopping it's thrashing and standing, panting from exhaustion, next to it's larger herd-mate. Things were going perfectly. Isshurra was getting closer, and soon they'd be off to hunt Wooly Veermoks, the most feared predators of Naboo.

((I finally replied!! Yay!!))

Something wasn't right. True she was more paranoid than perhaps nessecary, but something was just wrong. Deciding not to trust her instincts she turned away and decided to get some rest. That would be nice, sleep was something she was rapidly losing more and more of.

Then she heard the soft thud of foot falls. Not heavy enough to be that of the Guarlara's she turned around and slipped into the shadows. She flitted in and out of the thick cover of shade, trying not to be seen, though she knowing she would be succesful. It was one of the things she found herself having a natural talent for, she could disappear easily when she needed to.

Upon coming to the edge of the trees, where the shadows met the sun, she peered into the space stretching before her. What was this Wookiee trying to hide, and why? Normally she knew it was best to leave a Wookiee to its own devices, but this was one adventure she was either going to need to stop, or join.

She spotted a Trandoshan leaping onto the back of a Guarlara. It was graceful, and well planned move. She winced as the the creature tried in vain to gain it's freedom. She always did have a soft spot for those being hunted.

She darted into the middle of the operation, simoultaniouly whipping out a blaster and her lightsaber. She was almost posative they would hear the slight noise as the blade extended. To be safe, Vivian placed a finger on the trigger of her blaster, ready to fire if she needed to, though she would much rather keep this betwwen the three of them. The noise of a blaster was sure to draw attention to them.

Her mind raced. This was a stupid fight to pick. Both the Wookie and the Trandoshan seemed to be agile fighters. If nothing else thier species suggested at least a challenge, though it was not hard to tell, should a fight ocour, it would not be easily won. In fact, losing was not impossible, but rather an option best pushed to the back of the mind. She waited, every muscle in her body tense, for them to make the next move.
